The Stanley Arms

Father and son Steve and Russell Bennett purchased the freehold of The Stanley Arms in September 2002 from Roy and Pat Bond who in 1997 had transformed the Stanley into a Real Ale paradise. Steve then bought out Russell in 2004, who had started his own property re-furbishment business which went from strength to strength. Steve gradually with the help of his wife, Barbara, daughter Sam and son Steven increased the handpump selection to seven, which enables them to offer an even larger selection of quality ales chosen from small breweries around the country. The pub is an eight times winner of the Brighton & Southdowns Camra “Pub of the Year.” Steve is always available for constructive comments or suggestions. Just speak with him in the pub.

A bit of history

First mention of the Stanley Arms  was of the Publican Edmund Goble in 1884, in 1893 he was granted a full Ale House Licence in respect of The Stanley Arms. He died in 1911 and his sons David and James continued until 1915, the Stanley was then run by Arthur Birchfield until 1938. Subsequent Publicans were Noah Stanley and Hamby & Myrna Turner, various changes in ownership then followed until in 1997 it became a Free House.
